Bharathi Association in co-ordination with The Indian Club is planning to celebrate “Pongal”, the Tamil Harvest Festival with pomp and vigour. The celebration will be a whole day event at The Indian Club on Friday the 13th January 2012 starting from 10 A.M.
"Pongal" is a Thanks giving Harvest Festival celebrated every year in mid January all around the world by Tamilians to mark the harvest of crops and a special thanksgiving to God, the sun, the earth and the cattle. Tamilians draw kolams (Rangoli) on the door step, consume sugar cane, and prepare sweetened rice, milk and jaggery in new earthen pots.
The 15th year annual event of The Bharathi Association is expected to attract more crowds this year. A series of Entertainment, Dance, Music, Adventurous Sports, Games and Fun activities have been lined up.
Traditional Pongal Lunch with variety of vegetarian dishes served in Banana leaf, cooked with freshly harvested rice will be served to Members, Guests and Pass holders.
A Grand Musical Extravaganza with Live Orchestra will be held at 6.30 p.m. featuring Popular Tamil Hit songs along with Cinematic dances.
The Star attraction of the evening will be Actress Kavya and Actress Kannal from Kollywood Film Industry.
Actress Kavya attained stardom with her fabulous leading performance in the TV seriel "Thirumathi Selvam" and "Sellame" which has scored high TRP rate and being telecasted regularly in Sun TV.
Kavya is a very good singer and a compere as well. She has hosted several popular shows as Anchor in almost all Tamil TV Channels. She is talented performing in the stage with dance movement. She has given music performace with famous singers including S.P.Balasubramanian, Hariharan, Sujatha, Karthik, Srinivas, Mano, Vijay Yesudas, Haricharan, and Rajith.
She has been singing playback for the leading music directors like Maestro Ilayaraja, Harris Jeyaraj, Imaan, Vijay Antony, Devi Sri Prasad, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Mani Sharma, Karthik Raja, Bharadhwaj, Dhina, Srikanth Deva and Sirpi.
Another star attraction of the Evening is Actress Kannal who is casting a heroine role in the upcoming Tamil Film "Maanthan" starring along with Hero Sathya. The Film is due to get released in 2012. The interesting part of this actress Kannal is the fact that she is born and brought up in Bahrain. At her early stage she has given several dance performance in Bharathi Association which has served as a platform for many budding artistes to shine in cine field as celebrities.
